*VIDEO LINK AT THE END*
To start, dampen the hair and section off the hair you want to do the French braid on. Clip the remaining hair down on every side so it doesn't get in your way later. Make sure it is damp enough so you don't have to many fly aways, focus more on the roots then the ends.
Next comb the section you will be working with in the direction you want the braid to go. We are doing one down the middle
Now take your rat tail comb and part your first section. We are going to part all of our sections before starting the braid. This will help make it easier on you and make the sections more even and smooth. You will need to decide how big or small you want the section to be. I did 4 sections.
Comb through to get it smooth
Now twist that section together and let it hang to a side.
Now it is time to start the braid! Take your front piece and comb out. Split into 3 sections.
Now to get the braid started you braid like normal. Take the right piece and go over top of the middle. (The middle now becomes the right side) take the left side over the new middle piece (middle now becomes left side)
Now we are ready to start adding pieces. You are going to be continuing your braid the same way, just adding your section in as you go. The next piece to put in the middle is the right. Hold the 3 strands in your left hand with the strands between your fingers to keep them seperated as you add your first twisted section on the right. Comb with your fingers or comb if needed. You add this into your right (now middle) section and pull tight so all the pieces are following. Remember both your right side of the braid and the first section on the right go over top of the middle and the middle now becomes the new right side.
Now take your left section of the braid and put it over top of the middle piece.(the section you just added hair to)
Now grab the first section on the left and do the same thing. Put the 3 sections in your right hand and grab with your left hand. Comb with fingers or comb and pull tight as you put the hair in the middle. Then flip the right section to the middle and continue until you are done.
My sections ended up not being very even. Remember you have 3 sections so you will add hair 6 different times, 3 on each side.
Comb through to get it smooth
Now twist that section together and let it hang to a side.
Now part off another section, comb and split in half. This is going be the first section you work into the braid. On each side, twist and let them hang to the side. (Left side, twist and hang down on the left. Right side twist and hang down on the right) twisting the pieces will just help your sections stay together so it doesn't need to be perfect.
Do this until you get to the end of your section of hair youre doing the braid on. Notice I have 3 on the right side and my front piece is hanging down in the front. Now it is time to start the braid! Take your front piece and comb out. Split into 3 sections.

Holding the hair in your hands is key. Practice and figure out what works and feel most comfortable for you. It is ok to let the braid pieces hang down if needed. Just make sure you pull them tight when you pick them up again.
When you get to the end of your sectioned off hair continuing braiding like normal to the ends of the hair. Place an elastic around to hold in place. You can leave it just like that or you can add it into a pony tail or pig tails.
